$2.5mil water project set to be finished in just weeks
A NEW Warwick Water Treatment Plant clarifier at Glen Rd in Warwick is just weeks away from completion.
The $2.5million project, which is being completed by Alder Constructions, will allow the Waste Water team to undertake much needed maintenance works on the existing plant, which has been cleaning Warwick's water since the 1960s.
The clarifier is just the first stage of the Warwick Water Treatment Plant update, which will culminate with construction of a 3.5 megalitre treated water reservoir.
The project will secure a reliable water supply for Warwick, Yangan and Allora's future generations and is a part of the council's wider commitment to upgrading and managing assets, and the ongoing provision of quality water for the region.
Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Tracy Dobie donned a hard hat and braved high winds on Tuesday to meet with Council's Water and Waste Water team, who gave a guided tour around the construction of the new facility.
Cr Dobie said she was thrilled to see progress taking place at the plant.
"Warwick Water Treatment Plant has been working hard since the 60s and was certainly in need of an upgrade," Cr Dobie said.
"The new clarifier will be of great benefit to Warwick and surrounding towns.
"This is a significant project, which is vital to ensure water security for the future and everyone involved should be commended for achieving this on time and on budget.
"It is a priority for council to maintain and bring all of its important assets up to date and this project is just the beginning."
