$30,000 up for grabs for winner of campdrafting crown
THERE is $30,000 of offer for the winner of campdrafting's Triple Crown, held during October every year leading into the Warwick Rodeo.
The Condamine Bell Open Campdraft starts the Triple Crown and the winner there is the only person and horse able to win the 'Crown' but it must be done by the same rider on the same horse and this year, 2015, Pete Comiskey and Paris are the ones.
The pair won the famous Condamine Bell last Sunday.
How the tiny town of Condamine (pop 426) is able to run such a prestigious campdraft is anyone's guess.
In 2005, Comiskey won the Warwick Gold Cup riding Roaney's Chex so while the Triple Crown is considered almost impossible to win, this man has the credentials to do it.
The second leg of the Triple Crown is the Chinchilla Grandfather Clock Open, with a prestigious grandfather clock as the major trophy.
The first grandfather clock was given as a trophy at Chinchilla almost 50 years ago and although not as much sought after as the Warwick Gold Cup (86-years-old in 2015), it still ranks among the top campdrafting trophies in Australia.
The winner will be decided on Sunday afternoon when all the riders and horses will pack-up and start for Warwick.
No-one in campdrafting denies the prestige attached to winning the Warwick Gold Cup where almost $100,000 in prizemoney plus a hand-made trophy saddle add just a little more to the actual Gold Cup itself.
The three committees from Condamine, Chinchilla and Warwick each contribute $10,000 should the Triple Crown be taken out by the single horse/rider combination.
Will this be the year?
