36 drug charges after raids

A CROWD of pyjama-clad onlookers watched as police raided a Wallace Street address yesterday morning, one of 18 properties raided across the Southern Downs during the past two days.

A Warwick Police Criminal Investigation Branch spokesman said 19 people had been charged with a total of 36 drug-related offences when the properties were raided on Wednesday and yesterday.

“Nine Stanthorpe properties, six Warwick properties and three Clifton properties were raided,” the spokesman said.

“Twelve people from Stanthorpe, five people from Warwick and two people from Clifton were charged.”

The spokesman said the cache of drugs seized included 16 immature cannabis plants, half a kilogram of dried cannabis and a small amount of amphetamines.

He said the series of raids were successful and were partly attributed to the information given by the public to police.

The officers involved in the raids were Warwick uniformed police, Warwick CIB, Warwick intelligence officers and Stanthorpe CIB.

Those charged are expected to appear in the Warwick Magistrates Court later this month.
