43 nominations for five races

THERE are 43 nominations for five races at the 116th annual Warwick Picnic Races on Saturday.

Nominations have been extended for race 2, the Warwick Daily News Class 3 Plate, which has five nominations.

Queensland Racing handicapper Andrew Whitehead said normally additional horses were nominated after the deadline was extended to 9am the next day.

“If there are less than eight nominations in the country or 15 for a TAB race, the general policy is to extend nominations,” Whitehead said.

“There is a lot of competition this weekend with eight country race meetings, including one at Gatton.”

Warwick Picnic Races secretary/treasurer Andrew Williams said bookings in the picnic race club marquee area could be made by calling him on 0429 004299.

Tickets are $35 for pre-bookings and $40 for ticket purchases on the day.

“Patrons are able to bring their own food and drinks to the picnic race club area,” Williams said.

“There will be a calcutta during the afternoon, Fashions on the Field and jumping castles for the children in the picnic race club area.

“Local band Naw will play from 5pm, there is an evening sausage sizzle and then a courtesy bus to the Horse and Jockey for marquee area patrons.”

The club has sold 200 tickets for the marquee area so far but numbers are expected to double

Williams is hoping for 400 in the picnic race area and the same number in the public/turf club area where admission is $15.
