STANDING on the polocrosse field at Morgan Park - the same stretch of grass that has lured professional players from Australia and abroad - State MP Tim Mulherin delivered the good news many had been hoping for.

Yesterday, the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Regional Economies announced two of Warwick's iconic events were set to receive $45,000.

The Warwick Polocrosse Club and the Warwick Pentath-run have been granted $25,000 and $20,000 respectively, money which will go towards expanding their next events.

Mr Mulherin said the grants were going to two worthy committees.

"The Warwick Polocrosse Club have really worked towards this," he said.

"About 10,000 people descend on Warwick (for the Australian Polocrosse Nationals) and it is a good injection to the community.

"Hopefully the $25,000 will assist the organisational committee so it will be a successful event."

Mr Mulherin said the two events would help promote the region and lure more visitors to the Southern Downs.

"This area has suffered with the tourism downturn from the global financial crisis, so this funding will be a shot in the arm to turn that around," he said.

Warwick Polocrosse Club president Les Fraser said the grant would be put to good use.

"This will help us advertise the event and basically use it for promotions," he said.

"At the nationals, we will have 50 interstate teams so our focus will be on attracting spectators and the day trippers who have never seen polocrosse before."

Warwick player and Australian polocrosse captain Cameron Shepherd said the grant would help keep Morgan Park in line with its first-class reputation.

Warwick Pentath Run representative Nathan Rogers said the event attracted about 400 competitors this year, and it was hoped to increase that number next year.
