$45,000 to fill transportation gap for disability community
THROUGH local fundraising, $45,000 has been donated to the Endeavour Foundation and Warwick District Disability Support Group.
The money, which has been collected over a significant period of time, bought a seven-seater van.
Warwick and District Disability Support Group chairman Peter Stacy knows the pressures of disability care first-hand.
Through taking care of his son, Mr Stacy has seen the gaps in rural healthcare services.
"A lot of services work really well, however rural communities are still left behind,” he said.
"Transportation that is accessible for those with needs is a massive service that is required in the area.
"For my son to use a taxi every day the cost would be astronomical.”
Using the raised money to purchase a vehicle will help those in need overcome transport obstacles.
The Endeavour Foundation, which provides learning and accommodation services in town, will be able to use the vehicle to transport their clients.
"At the moment it is quite difficult for our clients who have wheelchairs and walking aids to be transported,” Endeavour Foundation support and operations manager Vanna Aspinall said.
"Physically there isn't enough space for them to fit in the cars we have.”
The seven-seater van will allow enough space for their clients to participate in community events.
"We are very appreciative for this huge gift, we will get a lot of use out of it,” Ms Aspinall said.
"Our clients will be able to participate in more community events without hassles.”
The prospect of suitable transportation provides further opportunities for disability clients to achieve their goals.
