55yo man faces serious charges

A MAN from the Warwick area has been committed to stand trial after he allegedly committed sex offences against an underage family member.

The man is charged with a string of serious sexual offences including incest, rape and indecent treatment of a child under 16, who is also a family member.

He is also charged with breaching privacy and unlawfully possessing weapons.

The 55-year-old cannot be named to protect the identity of the child.

He appeared in the Warwick Magistrates Court last Tuesday.

The day's proceedings ran into overtime and the man was ordered to return to the courthouse on Wednesday to have his matter heard again.

It was in Wednesday's proceedings the matter was officially handed up to be dealt with by trial at an upcoming sitting of the Warwick District Court.

He has been in police custody since he was charged earlier this year.

The offences are alleged to have occurred between 2005 and 2010.

No trial date has yet been set but the District Court will return to Warwick in September and November this year.
