56,000L FOR WARWICK: Joining forces for huge donation

A DESIRE to help the region they love has left a water charity group with 56,000L to donate to Warwick's rural residents this weekend.

Sunshine Coast Water Angels organisers Anna Bradley and Rachel Wise started the viral campaign in August after hearing how dire the drought situation had become.

Ms Bradley grew up in Warwick while Ms Wise lived in Stanthorpe for 17 years and had watched her children grow up there.

"I adore the place and it's devastating, we have friends that are farmers who aren't farming any more and more and more people who are moving out of the region," Ms Wise said. With members of the Facebook group showing support from as far away as Pakistan, Ms Wise said she had been blown away by the help that was continuing to come in for the region.

"We even sat down and said why is this so successful, and I think it's because people can go buy 10L. It's something small that they can afford and they feel they're doing something.

The operation is being run in conjunction with Southern Downs Community Relief Group (SDCRG) and is available to rural residents, who can bring proof of their address, from Saturday 9am at Warwick Showgrounds.

SDCRG is also looking for volunteers and if you are interested, contact the group at sdcrg19@gmail.com or come along on Saturday to sign up.
