OPINION: 8 Mile fix sorely needed
IT IS disappointing to see the Eight Mile may have fallen back down the State Government's priority list with the latest change of leadership.
Although plans for an overpass were in very early stages and a solution was still years ago, it was encouraging to have both state and federal leaders admit the intersection was a trouble spot that needed attention.
The 80/20 funding split between the two government levels seemed fair and attainable, albeit still a few years away.
Fortunately it has been some time since a serious accident has taken place at the notorious spot and hopefully that will last a lot longer.
But I fear the problems at that spot will be ongoing and fatal accidents will continue to plague that spot.
While the argument always arises that there it is simply human error that is behind the problem-spot - and that may very well be the case - that is not an argument for it to not be fixed.
If people continue to die at that spot, we need help to make a change.
