Australia Day Awards are edging closer
GOONDIWINDI'S Australia Day Awards are edging closer and provide a great chance to recognise the region's unsung heroes.
The awards celebrate the outstanding contributions made in the Goondiwindi community across a variety of areas.
On top of the citizen of the year and young citizen of the year awards, there are categories for sports achievement, cultural achievement and community groups.
Leon Jackson received the 2013 award.
"Mrs Jackson was nominated for her many contributions to the community including her assistances to the Yagabrine Cricket Club and involvement in the establishment of the open and junior tennis tournament," Goondiwindi regional Mayor Cr Graeme Scheu said at the awards ceremony last year.
