DIAMONDS are not only a sought-after item for women around the world; the sparkly items are also a sculptor’s best friend.

The sculptors in Leslie Park chipping away at their blocks on day four were holding their diamonds close as they were incorporated into their tools.

“The sandstone cuts like butter using diamond tools,” sculptor Paul Stumkat explains.

“Diamonds are the hardest thing around – they aren’t just for girls, they are a sculpture’s best friend, too.”

Curious Rose City residents gathered outside the work fence watching the rocks’ progress, which has come a long way since Saturday. School pupils will be introduced to the world of sculpting today as they visit the park and have a go at creating a piece of art themselves.
