Ekka-static to be named Grand Champion

"SHE'S a real beautiful cow - a stunner, a real champion" are the words Boomerang Park's John Brandon used to describe Sheeba GO3, who has been named Grand Champion Senepol at the Brisbane Exhibition.

Despite the dry conditions, an ecstatic Mr Brandon said his cattle had never been in better show condition for yesterday's judging. Even after showing cattle for more than 30 years, Mr Brandon said there was something special about winning his sixth grand champion in succession.

"Sheeba comes from a long line of winners," Mr Brandon said. "Her mother and grandmother had taken out prizes at the Ekka before.

"And the best part was that we took out champion ahead of the best bull in show."

The Yangan local said the Ekka was a great chance to catch up with old friends.

"Over the years I've made a lot of friends in the show ring," he said.

"Most of them were talking about the weather and how hard it's been over the past 18 months."

Mr Brandon said preparations for next year's Ekka would start right away.

"It's a full-time job," he said.
