For Shane Beikoff, racing is in the blood

ONE has been there and done that, the other wants to make it to the top level in motor sport.

The final round of the Queensland Motor Racing Championships at Morgan Park Raceway went like clockwork at the weekend.

Brisbane driver Shane Beikoff was one of the 'been there and done that' drivers at Morgan Park yesterday.

He was 19th in Bathurst in 1998 and 2000 and is now a regular in Warwick.

Beikoff and his son Jono travelled the country from 2002 to 2009 when they were involved in the V8 development series and rates the time in racing as great for the relationship between father and son.

"We helped each other with our racing which helped us bond and made us closer," Beikoff said.

Yesterday, Sunshine Coast driver Jim Bailey was looking to the future and his chances of making it to the top level in the sport.

He was fourth in his class at the weekend in Formula Ford and may do the national series next year.

"Shannons are likely to take over the series," he said.

"I am trying to save my dollars and am building a Dick Johnson replica XE Falcon GT to sell to help fund my racing."

Bailey is an engine reconditioner and has an ambition to race open wheelers overseas.

His father Trevor is with him all the way but admitted only a few made it to Formula One.
