Grant serves up canteen for Warwick Senior Citizens

THE Warwick Senior Citizens members will soon have a new place to whip up a cuppa, with a grant for a new canteen in their hot little hands.

Publicity officer Mick McEniery said a $12,000 Jupiter's Casino community grant would cover the bill.

"The money will be used to replace the original canteen, which was installed back in 1981," Mr McEniery said.

"The current canteen has been very well utilised - not just by seniors but is also a major selling point for people who want to hire the hall.

"It has served us very well over time and is desperately in need of an upgrade."

Members of the club who use the canteen often have put their design skills to use to ensure the most functional end result. "It will make the centre more appealing and the construction will mean there will plenty of drawers and they will be a lot easier for people to access and clean," Mr McEniery said.

"The members are really looking forward to it and we are extremely pleased to secure the funding to help provide services to not only the senior community, but the community as a whole."

Mr McEniery said the majority of tradespeople hired for the work were local.

For more information on hiring the hall, phone Mick on 4661 2741.
