Jessica Carey wins Chi Colourist of the Year competition
WHEN hairdresser Jessica Carey submitted her entry in the Chi Colourist of the Year competition the last thing she expected was to be named the Queensland winner.
The JC's Inspirational Hair owner said it was the first competition she entered which entailed her sending in photos of the work, as opposed to doing the work in front of a panel of judges.
"Hairdressing is something I have wanted to do since I was five years old," Miss Carey said.
"I was over the moon when I heard I had won, it was something I had been working towards for a long time.
"I didn't win the Australian title, but I was happy at how well I did do, especially as it was my first competition."
Miss Carey's said she was lucky that one of her friends had the right hair for the colour work she had in mind.
She enlisted the help of make-up artist Biancaa McMurtrie and Angel Photographics for the photo shoot.
The young businesswoman said it was the first step towards her next goal.
"I would like to get into fashion work," she said.
"My dream is to work for models and my plan is to do that in London."
Miss Carey said she planned to enter in a few more competitions as a way of getting her name recognised and making new contacts.
"You have to put your name out there," she said.
Her winning photo is featured in the July/August edition of Instyle Magazine.
