June celebrates 80th birthday
DANCING and music have been the key to longevity for June Lawrence.
She celebrated her 80th birthday with about 50 guests, comprised of family and close friends, on Saturday at the Warwick RSL.
“I have visitors from the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Port Macquarie and Warwick of course,” Mrs Lawrence said.
“It’s lovely to have them all together as it is hard to get them all together at any one time.”
She said she doesn’t feel any different now she has turned 80.
She said she has always kept fit by dancing, which she used to do regularly with her husband Lionel, who sadly died two years ago.
“My husband and I had a good time together dancing,” Mrs Lawrence said. “We never went anywhere without one another.”
A resident of the Southern Downs for most of her life, she and Mr Lawrence raised a family of talented musicians, with their daughters Debbie, Sue and Lyn all becoming beautiful jazz singers.
“We are a very musical family, except me,” she laughed. “I really love music though.”
She couldn’t have been happier on Saturday, surrounded by the people she loves.
Rae Welsh returned to her former hometown of Warwick from Port Macquarie for the special event.
“I have known June and her family for a fair while now – it’s good to see her for her 80th,” Mrs Welsh said.
Mrs Lawrence said it doesn’t take much to keep healthy and live a long and happy life.
“To live a good life listen to plenty of music and always have fun, enjoy healthy food and live a good long life,” she said.
