League committee hosts carnival
THE Warwick and Southern Downs Zone 5 Under 43 kilograms Rugby League Committee will host a Weight for Age Carnival in Warwick this week.
Apart from the ‘on field’ official opening ceremonies on Monday welcoming teams to the city of Warwick and carnival games, our officials dinner (coaches/managers/trainers and committee) will be celebrated at the Warwick RSL Kings Theatre on Monday night.
Special guests for the evening include Brisbane Broncos football manager Peter Nolan, Broncos game development manger Paul Dyer and development officer Michael Hancock, a former Broncos player, Queensland State of Origin player and Australian representative.
Hancock, who has played 297 games for the Broncos, was named in the Australian Team of the Decade and in the best ever Broncos team over 20 years.
There are eight teams preparing for a week of round robin competition.
These teams include Wynnum in Brisbane (the city kids), Cunnamulla (the bush kids), Western Downs (Miles, Chinchilla and district), Central Downs (Allora/Clifton district), South Burnett (Murgon, Kingaroy and District), Balonne/Barwon (St George through to Lightning Ridge and surrounding district), McIntyre (Texas/Tenterfield/Inglewood and border districts), and Warwick (Southern Downs District).
The league is great entertaining football and all the kids love it because no player is over 43kg.
The city of Warwick should be busy for the week.
We hope the families attending will have a good look around before they leave Warwick on Friday.
Carnival running costs add up and the Warwick Zone 5 U/43kg committee appreciates the sponsorship of businesses, particularly that of the Warwick RSL Citizens and Memorial Club which has continued for a number of years.
The Warwick and Southern Downs team consists of: Tanna Alldridge, Josh Manwaring, Brad Britton, James Taylor, Aden Howard, Harry Sullivan, Angus Croft, Brad Morrish, Fraser McVeigh, Will Dearden, Chris Schnitzerling, Lewis Taylor, Brodie Hewitt, Michael Marini, Jackson Brackin, Andrew Quirk and Zack Stevens.
The team is coached by Robert Baguley and managed by Leon Close.
