Lifeline Op-Shop gets a new location on Albion St
WORK is less of a chore and more of a treasure hunt for Lifeline manager Stacey Friend who is settling in to the store's new Albion St location.
The corner spot has proven to be beneficial for the charity store which raised over $2000 on the first day.
"We had people lined up inside, it was so fantastic it blew me away," Ms Friend said about the late May opening.
"Since then it has settled down but we do have a steady stream come through every day.
"The last shop was far too small and we have seen a big improvement in the amount of drop-ins in this location."
Involved with Lifeline since she was just 15, Ms Friend says she enjoys helping people while developing business skills at the same time.
"My mum runs the one down in Stanthorpe so it is a bit of a family thing," Ms Friend laughed.
While the popularity of op-shopping has declined over the past couple of years, with an army of dedicated volunteers Ms Friend feels a comeback is long overdue.
"The internet has had a surprisingly big impact on our business, when times are tough more people tend to tell their stuff online instead of donate," she said.
"People also buy a lot of second hand things online now but coming to Lifeline you can actually feel and try on what you are buying."
During her years sorting through second-hand goods the manager said she has come across a few strange finds.
"Sometimes you get a few things you can't sell; we have had voodoo masks, a Ouija board and a few... umm, interesting videos," she said.
"But other than that we get some awesome bits and pieces, furniture and brand names.
"It's all about discovering something amazing just for you."
