Manure truck rolls in wet

EMERGENCY crews attended the scene of a truck accident on the New England Highway at Braeside south of Warwick this morning.

A south-bound truck carrying a load of manure and understood to be based at Stanthorpe slid off the highway in the rain shortly before 10am and came to rest against an embankment.   The driver was uninjured and the left lane of the highway was closed while a heavy-vehicle tow-truck was moved into position to recover the damaged truck.

It is understood the manure was from a feedlot in the Warwick area and was being taken to Stanthorpe.

A Warwick Police spokeswoman confirmed the truck had a load of "cow poo" on board, a large quantity of which was smeared across the roadway.

"It wasn't too nice," the spokeswoman said.

"The driver said he had hit a small divot in the road and in the wet conditions slid off into the embankment.

"We do not envisage laying any charges."

Police have warned motorists to take extra care on the roads in the coming days with the weather set to continue.
