Mum-and-dad builders can now call watchdog 24 hours a day

MUMS and dads building their dream home are taking advantage of a new 24-hour call centre for Queensland's building watchdog.

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission's new service has answered more than 1000 calls outside normal business hours in the first eight weeks of operation.

Housing Minister Tim Mander said the milestone showed there was a real appetite for making government services available outside normal business hours.

"It doesn't matter whether you're talking about contractors or consumers, people shouldn't always have to wait for a government office to open to get stuff done," he said.

"The building industry doesn't just operate from 9 to 5, and mums and dads who are building their dream home don't want to have to call the building watchdog on their lunchbreak.

"We all lead busy lives and it's important we make sure government services are available to people when it's convenient for them.
