Sprints go pink for breast cancer

LEYBURN is revving up to turn pink this August with the annual commemoration of Queensland's first Australian Grand Prix raising money for breast cancer.

On the weekend of August 23-24, thousands with petrol pumping through their veins will descend on the small town for Leyburn Sprints.

Celebrating its 19th anniversary, Leyburn Sprints will again be in a two-day format.

A new aspect sure to be a crowd-pleaser is the Retro Caravan Show-Off.

Prizes will be awarded for the best retro caravan and display, best retro caravan and car combination and the best quirkiest retro caravan.

As always, over the weekend there will be food stalls, markets, more than 200 fantastic cars, camping, licensed bars and an ATM on site.

There will be more than 15 categories of cars in the Show 'n' Shine on Sunday including best pre 1950s, best 1950-59, best 1960-69, as well as best American, best European, best British, best modified, best resorted, best club attendance and more.

The event has maintained about 15,000 visitors annually. Those sorts of figures provide a massive injection into the local economy that is a welcome financial boost for the town of Leyburn, the Southern Downs.

Keep an eye out for this Saturday's Daily News for a special horsepower edition of Warwick Lifestyle.
