Warwick 5 take 21-win streak into grand-final win
IT WAS 21 wins from 21 games for the Warwick 5 (12 years) team in this year's Darling Downs Inter-district Netball competition.
They won all their round games at carnivals at Laidley, Dalby, Gatton, Warwick and Toowoomba and then the semi final and final.
Before the grand final, goal defence Bella Newton said the games against Goondiwindi were the toughest and she was proved right.
In a game shortened, Warwick beat Goondiwindi 7-4 in a round game before recording a 22-20 grand final win.
Coach Kerri Shooter said each of the nine girls played in the grand final.
"We rotated positions so no- one missed out," Shooter said.
"I chose as a coach to give every single player reasonable court time in the final even if constant changes might have made it a little harder for the team."
Shooters Lucy Mantova, Caitlin Thorne and Taylah Hoffman worked together at the shooting end with Ashleigh McLean, Bridie Shooter, Sophie Waples and Chloe O'Halloran sharing the centre court roles.
In defence, Bella Newton and Phoebe Wyllie were joined by Taylah Hoffman who had time on each end of the court. Earlier this season, the same team was runners up in the Brisbane Challenge Carnival.
