Watoto Children's Choir to sing up a storm

AFTER seeing the Watoto people first hand, former Scots PGC student Lauren Bourke is excited to see the Watoto Children's Choir for the first time tonight, when they visit her old school.

Watoto Children's Choir was formed in 1994 and has since been travelling the world to raise money for people in Uganda.

Ms Bourke travelled to Africa late last year to volunteer and saw first-hand the poor conditions and tough challenges many Ugandans face.

"It was an incredible experience in Uganda, there are a lot of beautiful people there," she said.

"They are used to completely different conditions but they would welcome any assistance.

"I encourage anyone to go along and help out by attending."

Scots PGC director of learning Nigel Grant said he was pleased the school could host the concert.

"They're a really great charity and 100% of the proceeds will go back to the people in Uganda," Mr Grant said.

"The choir goes all over the world and they regularly tour Australia. I heard they were coming to Australia again and offered to host them at Scots PGC.

"We're very happy we're able to host them."

Mr Grant has also had a close account of the issues many people in Uganda face.

"My daughter, 27, has visited Uganda in the past and told me about the challenges," he said.

"I believe she may have even inspired Lauren (Bourke) to go on her visit."

The concert starts at 7pm and is free to watch, but a gold coin donation to the group would be appreciated.

There are no tickets, simply head to the Scots PGC Assembly Hall.

A range of albums and memorabilia from the group will be available for purchase.
