A day to get down to Earth
THE School of Total Education has once again celebrated their biennial 'Special Day', a whole school day of activities focused around a particular theme.
"This year the children are celebrating Earth Day. The day starts of with a parade by the children in the costumes they have made which they wear for the day which all the parents come and watch and cheer," principal Shane Power said.
Special days in recent years have included Europe Day, Young Scientists Day, Chindia Day and Bush Day.
Children from Prep to Year 12 divide into groups, involving every grade while dressed according to the theme.
The groups then rotate through a number of activities around the theme which the teachers and students have organised as part of their classroom studies over the previous six weeks.
Activities for Earth Day included Andy Goldsworthy environmental art, enviro maze, ochre painting, healthy café, drumming, junk sports and eco footprint.
"The children get so much from the day in so many different ways - it builds confidence, helps them to get on with each other and lots of learning is happening in a fun way without realising it," Mr Power said.
Families also joined in the biennial event enjoying a picnic tea and a concert.
