A deserving recipient

JON Constable's name has appeared in the Warwick Daily News on numerous occasions, most recently for his work with the Allora Medical Centre.

Today it is because he has been named the 2013 Warwick Citizen of the Year.

Mr Constable said it was completely unexpected.

"I didn't know that much about it," he said.

"It is satisfying that the local community thinks this of me."

Southern Downs Regional Councillor Neil Meiklejohn explained just how valuable Mr Constable was to the community.

"This outstanding citizen is and has been an avid supporter of the Allora district and wider community for many years since making the area his home in 1999," he said.

"He is an active member of the Allora Area Development Board.

"Over the past five years he has been the competition co-ordinator of sport at the Allora Community Sports Centre and is a past president of the Rotary Club of Allora.

"Jon was the driving force behind the Allora Medical Centre proposal.

"He is responsible for instigating the processes that led to the establishment of this much-needed medical facility."

Mayor Peter Blundell said Mr Constable had earned the award fair and square.

"There is nobody who is more deserving than you," he said.
