‘A disservice to the Southern Downs’: LGAQ slams Lister

PARLIAMENTARY comments made by Member for Southern Downs James Lister created outrage among officials this week.

Mr Lister accused Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie of being "toxic" and preventing rural aid by telling the Queensland Premier it was "not needed."

Cr Dobie has since rebuffed his claims and received public support from Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, who called Mr Lister's comments "disgusting."

President of the Local Government Association of Queensland Mark Jamieson weighed in this afternoon, expressing his disapproval.

"The community expects much better of its local MPs than the behaviour displayed," Mr Jamieson said.

"Lister's attack on Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie is as ill-informed as it is inappropriate.

"Mr Lister is simply wrong in his assertions."

Mr Jamieson went on to accuse Mr Lister of doing a "disservice to the people of the Southern Downs" and called for a retraction.

"He should immediately apologise and work with the council in dealing with this drought rather than taking pot shots from the sidelines," Mr Jamieson said.

"No other civic leader in this State has faced as many challenges in this current drought as Mayor Dobie."
