A GROUP of Toowoomba vegans is spreading the message that if you want to "save our planet", you need to "be vegan".

Toowoomba members of Vegan Era have unveiled their new billboard at the bottom of the Toowoomba Range.

Money for the project came from community donations.

The billboard is the fifth in Queensland to spread the message of Vegan Era, a group that promotes the benefits of a vegan lifestyle.

Vegan Era founders David Rafter and Amanda Rootsey said they were amazed by the number of Toowoomba residents who got behind the campaign.

Mr Rafter said the group's overall goal was to create an environment of "love, peace and compassion" for vegans.

"I know for us we just felt amazing when we adopted the vegan lifestyle and we want everyone to feel as good as we do," he said.
