A Lanza bonanza

SON beat dad by one run in a family battle with the cricket bat on the Southern Downs at the weekend.

In Stanthorpe senior club cricket on Saturday, Stanthorpe Cricket Association president Mark Lanza scored 77 to help secure a Souths win against Wanderers.

There were more Lanza runs on Sunday when Mark’s son Jordan hit an unbeaten 78 for the Stanthorpe under-12 side, which went down to Warwick in a representative game at Warwick East State School.

Jordan scored more than half his team’s total of 140.

The innings was his highest in any form of cricket, beating his previous best of 37. The 10-year-old reckons his best shot is the pull shot.

Long-serving Stanthorpe player/official John Hendry said both innings were chanceless except for one moment on Saturday when Mark could have been run out.
