A man's 'mad moment'

A LEYBURN man has been fined after he burst into another man's home and assaulted the two occupants.

Rex John Martin attended the home of one of the victims on August 17.

The Warwick Magistrates Court heard Martin grabbed one of the men in the house by the throat and shoved the other man.

In his statement to police, one of the victims said Martin accused him of putting a stop to a Vietnam Veterans motorbike ride, which had been planned for the Leyburn Sprints weekend.

He added that Martin, during his rage, told him to leave town for good if he didn't like the sprints and told him to leave town and threatened to burn his house down if he didn't comply.

One of the victims was taken to hospital following the attack after suffering an angina attack and had only recently been released from hospital following a heart attack.

Defence counsel for Martin said his client apologised for his "moment of madness".

He was fined $750 and no conviction was recorded.
