A must-win for Reddies
THE Warwick Credit Union Redbacks have secured a home ground semi-final this Saturday at 2.30pm.
Despite a close loss to the Toowoomba Tigers on Saturday, the Redbacks will line up at Roddies Oval to play the Goondiwindi Hawks.
The Toowoomba Tigers sealed victory over the Reddies by outplaying them in the third quarter, kicking four goals against the wind.
The final score showed Tigers 9.17 (71) defeating the Redbacks 7.5 (47).
The game was evenly matched all over the field but the experience of the defending triple premiers gave them the edge when it counted.
Missing the services of Clint McErvale, Cam Peterson, Dave Walker and Ray Lawer made the Reddies' task even more difficult.
Lawer is the only one who will definitely be out for the elimination final.
Kurt Millard, Sheldon Livingstone, Alex Cutmore and Kyle Thorn had standout games.
The day started with the under 12s having a big win and securing third spot, which now gives the Reddies three teams in the finals.
The seniors will be playing in an elimination sudden-death final at home and the two junior teams will have a double chance at the grand final, courtesy of a qualifying final. Unfortunately both of them will be playing in Toowoomba.
The official opening of the new facility took place prior to the senior game at the weekend.
Councillor Neil Mieklejohn was MC for the opening, officiated by local member Lawrence Springborg.
At the ceremony, the large crowd was given a good insight into the enormous amount of work that has gone on behind the scenes to build the magnificent facility.
