A birthday party a century in the making
LONGEVITY certainly runs in the family for the region's latest centenarian, Allora Homestead resident Richard Cook.
Richard, or Dick as he is better known, celebrated his 100th birthday in what was ultimately the party of the century, surrounded by family, friends and staff at the home yesterday.
The day started with one of Richard's favourite past times - a game of cards with his friend Kate Gordon before his daughter and three grandchildren joined him for the celebration.
Richard said he owed his longevity to always being physically and mentally active.
"I don't feel 100. I never thought anything of it until yesterday and today," he said.
Longevity runs in the family for Richard, whose mother lived to see her 100th birthday and whose brothers are aged 89, 91 and 93.
Throughout his years Richard said he had seen some big changes in the world.
"There's been unbelievable change," he said.
There's plenty to look forward to for Richard, with his first great-grandchild due in June.
