A passion for textiles has Kellie in a spin
CREATING her own unique clothing has resulted in spinner and weaver Kellie Purcival taking out first prize in the spinning category at the Warwick Show on the weekend.
Thanks to the Warwick Spinners and Weavers group, Mrs Purcival said she had learnt the techniques required to turn a variety of natural fibres into affordable and original works of art she was proud to wear.
"I am amazed at how many different fibres including wool, bamboo, milk, soy, cotton, silk and hemp that are available and am enjoying experimenting with them all," she said.
"The process of spinning, plying and dying the fibre to transform it into a useable material is so relaxing and satisfying.
"And the finished product is so much better than what you buy in the shops. "
The keen crafter encouraged people of all ages to join the Spinners and Weavers group.
She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and new techniques with those who want to learn.
The group meets every Wednesday morning at 9.30am at the Christian College and for a small joining fee you can become part of a fun, friendly and caring group that is ready to educate.
"I recently helped my six-year-old granddaughter make her own felt bag from scratch, and the look of amazement on her face when she saw the finished produce was priceless," she said.
"I want to be able to share that with as many people as possible and, along with the group, we are hoping to run a number of workshops this year for the local community."
