Driver unhooks burning truck
A QUICK-thinking truck driver unhooked his trailers to salvage his load moments before his prime mover burst into flames early yesterday morning.
The Singleton-based driver was travelling south along the New England Highway about 4am yesterday when he smelt smoke.
Pulling off the road near Dalveen, the 41-year-old released the trailers from the B-double before moving the Kenworth prime mover forward about 90 metres, where it became engulfed in flames.
The driver was unhurt but in a state of shock and no property was threatened.
Stanthorpe Police were called to the scene but the entire prime mover had already been destroyed.
Police believe an electrical fault may have triggered the fire in the nine-year-old truck.
