A SPOONFUL of sugar helps the medicine go down but these days more people want the sugar they eat to be as natural as possible.

Sugar has been labelled the bad guy for many years, but Naomi Rowler of Wholly Goodness Wholesome Foods, believes it doesn't need to be.

"There is a lot of misinformation out there about foods and sugar in particular," Mrs Rowler said.

"People are a lot more interested in knowing how their food is created and obviously the more natural a food is the more popular it is going to be," she said.

One of the more popular natural sugars is rapadura sugar.

"It is from cane but it isn't processed or heated," Mrs Rowler said.

"People are going back to basics and realising that while natural foods seem more expensive you will be eating less because you are satiated for longer," she said.

Have you tried natural sugar?
