Hammer used to kill guinea pigs in front of onlookers

A TEENAGER accused of deliberately killing two guinea pigs in front of other people has appeared before Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Kyle Robert Rice, 19, is accused by police of killing the two animals which he had allegedly bought a short time before.

He has not as yet been required to enter any plea to a charge of injuring animals or to unrelated charges of stealing, fraud, public nuisance, obstructing police and wilful exposure.

Noting it was his client's final remand on the matters, duty solicitor David Burns asked the court for another adjournment as he had only just come into the case and needed to take further instructions.

Mr Burns said his client could enter pleas of guilty to all charges apart from the animal cruelty and wilful exposure matters.

No details of the alleged incidents were aired in court, but it is believed at least one of the guinea pigs had been struck with a hammer.

Magistrate Bruce Schemioneck remanded Rice on bail and adjourned all matters for mention back in the same court on May 2.
