A third for run stalwart in his 14th Pentath-run

PAT Sinnott has competed in 14 of the first 15 Pentath-runs.

He first ran distance events as a 12-year-old in Ireland before moving permanently to Australia in 1994. Sinnott was part of the Pentath-run committee for the first 10 years.

He missed one Pentath-run when he was on holidays in Ireland and then only ran one or two legs each year when he was part of the organising committee.

There were record numbers in this year's Daily News Pentath-run.

He answers some questions about the third time he has run all five legs.

What was your time for the half marathon: One hour, 33.5 minutes. I have a best of one hour, 24 minutes, but I am getting a bit older.

What was the hardest part of the half marathon: It was pretty good; the worst hill is between the 19km and 20km marks from Warwick just before Yangan. Once you get to the top of the hill, it is virtually all downhill to the finish near the park at the edge of Yangan.

You ran 42.2km over the weekend, was the half marathon the toughest: The Ascent from Killarney to Queen Mary Falls was the toughest. The effort from the day before kicks in. The steepest and most difficult section is from the 5.5km mark at Browns Falls for the next 3km. The last 1.5km is still uphill but the gradiant eases off.

Have you ever not finished a Pentath-run event: I get there eventually.

Are you still going to be running like Lesley Le Vaillant in your 70s: I have 20 years to go to the 70s but I plan to keep running.

Did you end up with a trophy: I was third in my age group in the 1500m.

Did you run with anyone in particular from Warwick: Chris Fox and Neil Vickers were pretty close to me in all races. I was the first home of the three in the half but Neil was in front of me in the other races. Chris was in front of me in the cross country and the Killarney Ascent. It isn't easy to compare positions as there is a staggered start to accommodate the huge field. Our time starts when we cross the start line.

Who else from Warwick did you notice do well: Scott Clarkson is a regular at the parkrun and had a fantastic run in the 1500m after doing all events. Nathan Rogers was up near the front in the 5km and 1500m. My old mate Rob Stewart, who was with me on the Pentath-run committee for 10 years, ran well in the 5km. Georgie Stewart did all the events as did Anne Bradford and her daughter Kym O'Leary.

What about the local juniors: I noticed Sophie Follett was well up there in the cross country.
