A tough first chukka
WARWICK player Colten Preston had a dream debut chukka in the open men's polocrosse when he threw seven goals in the Queensland 25-15 victory against Victoria at Morgan Park yesterday.
Preston first played for Warwick as a junior and started the game in his favoured position, number 1.
He was used later as a number 2 after Matt Gleeson made a change.
Preston said the aim of Queensland was to start strongly.
"We were hoping for a margin of about 10," Preston said.
"This is the toughest polocrosse I have played."
He admits the polocrosse will be tougher tomorrow when his side meets a New South Wales combination with six Test players in the 4pm game. In the other men's game yesterday, WA beat Northern Territory 29-10.
Queensland went down 18-11 to front runners Western Australia in the first senior women's game of the carnival yesterday.
Cunningham club pair, captain Carly Cooper and Bryce Lamb, played in a Queensland 17-15 victory against Victoria in under-16 mixed.
Nationals committee chairman Les Fraser said the fields could handle a lot of rain.
"The rain on day two (yesterday) was good, we didn't have to use a water truck to damp down the roadways," Fraser said.
The first games today are at noon after the official breakfast and Anzac Day ceremony.
