Action week kicks off with walk

OVER 100 participants, school kids, carers and helpers turned out for yesterday's River Walk to kick off Disability Action Week events in Warwick.

Organiser Pam Burley said this event has always been afavourite.

"It's a fantastic way to bring everyone together,” she said.

"We've students from the Warwick High and East State School special education units here, plus participants from Community Options, Bluecare and the Endeavour Foundation.

"Over 55 Scots College students have joined us as well to play their traditional role as 'buddies', which they do so, so well.”

The event, which has been taking place for four years, is chock full of fun for everyone including a lovely river walk, a disco and free ice cream.

"This year we've got the Tooth Fairy here from Queensland Health, who will be handing out free toothbrushes, after the free ice cream, of course,” Mrs Burley said.

"And DJ Vince will pump out the music to get everybody dancing.

"That's where the Scots kids are so important: they do a great job making sure our participants have a fantastic time.

"Everyone likes to dance, regardless of their capacity.”

Mother Nature was kind enough to turn it on also.

"We've been absolutely blessed with the amazing sunshine today. It's beautiful,” Mrs Burley said.

"And huge thanks to the Warwick Wolves for the use of their facilities - it's great to have the shade and the undercover powered area of the shed - and to the Warwick Lions Club for their time and amazing food.

"All that allows us and the helpers to get in and enjoy the day with the kids.”
