Adelaide Oval to host Origin

STATE of Origin is set to rock the Adelaide Oval, with the blockbuster interstate contest heading to South Australia for a historic match in 2020, reports NRL.com.

The NRL has been bullish about its ambition to take its most marketable event on the calendar on the road, with Perth to host a match in 2019.

According to the report, the Adelaide Oval match in 2020 will be either game one or game two of the series to ensure that it’s not a dead rubber.

The Perth and Adelaide experiments come after Origin has effectively conquered Melbourne, with the last match at the MCG attracting 91,513 fans.

This year's opening match of the Origin series in Melbourne on June 6 will be the ninth time Victoria has hosted a game.

Both Perth and Adelaide have been largely starved of rugby league since their brief entry into the national competition during the Super League era, with both the Western Reds and the Adelaide Rams managing fleeting life spans.

The Adelaide Oval Origin showpiece will be announced by the NRL at a press conference at the famous venue at 10.30am today.
