Adventure of a lifetime

CORAL Brown was singing all the way to the bank yesterday thanks to generous donations by Warwick Credit Union and Warwick Rotary Club for her upcoming African adventure – where she’ll perform along side another Warwick lady, Del Charles, as a part of an Australian choir.

The two will head to Uganda next month with KwaYa (which is Swahili for choir) Aussies Singing for Life, but Ms Brown said it wouldn’t be all fun and games.

“We will be building a class room at an orphanage,” she said.

“But we will get to sing and see different African choirs which will be wonderful.”

Last year Ms Brown received a scholarship for the journey from the KwaYa Cross-Cultural Connections Program which aims to foster, promote and generate cross cultural partnerships between non-Indigenous Australian singers, Australian indigenous groups and indigenous communities abroad.

Then Mrs Charles got on board as well.

Warwick Rotary president and Warwick Credit Union CEO Lewis von Stieglitz was on hand to present Ms Brown with a $250 cheque from the Credit Union and a $500 cheque from Rotary.

“It’s a good opportunity to help people in the indigenous community who are excelling at what they are doing and it’s exciting for the ladies to be able to go to Uganda,” he said.

“We wish them a safe journey and we look forward to seeing them when they get back.”

The ladies have been drumming up community support to help get there and said Warwickites had gotten behind them all of the way.

“We really appreciate this,” Ms Brown said.

“And we just really want to thank all of the people who donated, not just cash but also things for raffles as well,” she said.

Ms Brown said they had almost raised their target amount but still had some essentials to pay for like vaccinations. If you would like to donate raffle prizes or cash, call Coral on 0403 424 997.
