AFL: Redbacks on fire in 2018
AUSSIE RULES: With a portfolio of new sponsors on board, a brand new club guernsey and a team sitting at the top of the AFL Darling Downs division 1 ladder, G.J. Gardner Warwick Redbacks president Ben Lubben said the club was in a great position early in the season.
The Redbacks have two wins from two games, both by a margin of more than 100 points, leaving them miles ahead at the top on for and against percentage.
This weekend they take on the third-placed South Toowoomba Bombers at Warwick Credit Union Oval on Saturday from 2.30pm.
Lubben said the team had been in fine form so early in the season.
"I know the club is really looking forward to this game," he said.
"It'll be our first hit out against a division 1 side from last year, so it'll be a good measure of where we're sitting as a team.
"We'll be missing Alex Cutmore in ruck, which is a big blow in that key position and Mitch Darton is out as well.
"Mitch has just joined us, but is a talented inclusion to the club."
Saturday will also double as one of the club's major events for the 2018 season, Ladies Day.
Lubben said it was a chance to include the all-important women of the club, the wives and girlfriends of players.
"This is a family club and we want everyone to be involved, so this is the clubs opportunity to say thank you to the partners of our players for everything they put up with through a long season," he said.
"So we've gone all out to make it a special event to get dressed up for and enjoy."
The event, which is sponsored by Bare and Raw Beauty, will start from 2pm at the Redbacks ground.
A special marquee, with a private bar and live music from Nash will be set up for the event.
"Entry is just $15 and the ladies will enjoy some amazing canapes prepared by the club's very own chef Mark Mills," Lubben said.
"There's a $150 door prize and the day will culminate with a huge $1500 multidraw, with some amazing prizes thanks to Spicers Peak Lodge, Bare and Raw Beauty, the Horse and Jockey Hotel and Hair Kreations."
This weekend's match will also see the club's new guernsey unveiled thanks to new major sponsor G.J. Gardner Homes who will sit alongside Warwick Credit Union and new platinum sponsors The Horse and Jockey Hotel, Steele's Bakery and Southern Downs Realty.
