AFP and Victoria Police launch counter-terror raids

FEDERAL and Victorian counter terrorism police are mid-way through a series of raids on properties in five Melbourne suburbs this morning.

The raids, an AFP spokesman said, were being conducted in suburbs Seabrook, Kealba, Meadoww Heights, Broadmeadows and Flemington.

However, the latest counter-terrorism raids were not related to any specific threat to public safety, or death of a young man believed to have terrorism links at Endeaavour Hils police station last week.

As the raids were currently underway, police were making no further comment at present, although a press conference is expected to be held later today.

The raids come as Prime Minister Tony Abbott prepares to meet Cabinet to discuss the potential role of Australia in military action against the Islamic State in Iraq this morning.
