CROSS your fingers and toes because the chance of showers this afternoon could be the last we get for a long while, according to meteorologists.

While there is a 40 per cent chance Warwick will see some showers this afternoon, within the next couple of hours, it may be the last chance for rain for the rest of this week.

Weatherzone meteorologist Jacob Cronje said, at the moment, it's more likely the rain will hit the west and northwest of the Rose City this afternoon.

"Places like Inglewood and Dalveen are more likely to get rain but every drop is welcome," Mr Cronje said.

Into the future, Thursday could offer some storms, but Mr Cronje warned residents not to get their hopes up.

"It's not looking particularly good, today is our best chance, on Thursday it will be more isolated south," he said.

Mr Cronje also advised residents to be cautious from Friday onwards, as temperatures rose and the fire danger was elevated to very high.

"The day temperature from Friday on will be quite warm at 30 and above," he said.
