All fired up for friendly competition
STOCKING up on firewood for winter may be as simple as buying a raffle ticket before this Friday.
Warwick Warrior Woodcutters have donated a trailer full of freshly-cut quality firewood for a raffle to raise funds for WIRAC's aquatics disability program.
The raffle will be drawn on Friday afternoon at the barbecue celebrations following the WIRAC Swim-a-thon findraiser event.
Warwick Warrior Woodcutters have a team swimming in the event, but raffle organiser Johno Felton said the team had already put in the hard yards chopping the wood.
"We were out there in 40 degree heat and all went through about five litres of water each,” Mr Felton said.
The Warwick Warrior Woodcutters are a group of military veterans who provide support for local community charities by supplying firewood or donating funds raised through the firewood they sell.
"We have played golf, we have played bowls and neither of those we like doing... we just like getting out in the bush, having a cup of billy tea and burning damper,” Mr Felton said.
The Warwick Warrior Woodcutters plan to march into WIRAC in their conspicuous camouflage swimming togs on Friday when the Swim-a-thon kicks off at 12 noon.
Teams from the Warwick Police and Warwick Fire and Emergency Services will also be participating in the Swim-a-thon to raise money to assist people with disabilities access the WIRAC facilities.
The event is open to all, and there will be a barbecue and light refreshments.
Raffle tickets are available at the front desk of WIRAC.
