All NRA events on program for Killarney Rodeo

RODEO: Warwick cowboy Mitch Eastwell heads three standings lists in the National Rodeo Association and will be one of the favourites in the Killarney Show and Rodeo Society NRA Rodeo on August 13-14.

The all round rodeo will feature all association events. The rodeo will be on the Saturday afternoon and night and will be in conjunction with the Futurity and Classic Bull events on the mornings of August 13-14 at the Killarney Showgrounds.

Eastwell currently leads the rope and tie standings in the NRA, two spots ahead of his brother Brock. Not to be outdone by his brothers, Wade Eastwell is in equal 11th spot along with fellow Southern Downs rider Josh Green.

Mitch is first in the all around and leads steer wrestling standings. Brock is ninth.

“I am hoping to win my first NRA title buckles this year,” he said.

A large number of Southern Downs competitors are well placed in NRA standings and are likely starters at Killarney.

The main Saturday performance will start at 3pm with non-stop action until 8pm.

It is expected an average of 15 riders will compete in each event with all competitors aiming to secure placings and points to boost their position in NRA standings.

Plans are in place for the Killarney Show Pavilion to be moved behind the cutout yard and above flood level before the August rodeo. The Killarney Pony Club is taking responsibility for the old pavilion and a new show pavilion will be completed within the next six months opposite the golf course.
