All systems go for U18s

RUGBY LEAGUE: Preparations are complete for the Cowboys under 18s, as they head into Sunday's grand final against the Valleys Roosters.

The side conducted an opposed training session against the Collegians U16s side last night, their final hit-out before their date with destiny.

Despite the Roosters coming into the game as favourites after their 34-18 qualifying final win over Dalby a fortnight ago, the side remains confident they can come away with the spoils.

Coach Matt Grew said he was happy with the team preparations to date.

"The opposed session went really well,” Grew said.

"Collegians have a preliminary final themselves this weekend, so it was good for them as well to train against an older side.

"It was important to keep the boys thinking in a game situation, and work on their defensive sets.

"It's the best way to prepare for an upcoming game.”

The full squad of 20 will make the trip to Toowoomba, and Grew said the side was trying to keep things as normal as possible.

"We're preparing the same way we have all year,” he said. "So far it has gotten us to the stage that we need to be at.

"We were going to get a bus, but we wanted to keep things as relaxed as possible on Sunday.”
