All things winged in the city
AEROPLANE and flying enthusiasts flew in from all parts of the country for the annual Wings over Warwick event on Saturday.
Carl Boulton and Val Woods flew up from Grafton in their RV7.
"It's the third time we've been to the event," Mr Boulton said.
"Everyone is just so friendly."
Another light aircraft owner Brian Hunter has flown to the event from the Gold Coast for the past 30 years.
"We just come up for the day," he said.
"It's a great unlicensed strip with no landing fees and there is always great weather."
Queensland Recreational Aircraft Association president and chief flying instructor Kelvin Hutchinson said the day was about opening the local aerodrome up to the community.
"It's such a great facility out here," Mr Hutchinson said.
"We get around 800-1000 people come and have a look each year.
"There's nearly 80 aircraft here for people to look at and a great variety of different kinds," he said.
Mr Hutchinson, who has been a flying enthusiast since he was a teenager, made the tree-change to Warwick about seven years ago and has been involved in the association since.
"It was always a hobby of mine but then the family came along so I put it on hold for a while," he said.
"Once the kids grew up and got married themselves I was able to get back into it.
"It takes a lot of time and dedication to become a flying instructor."
Mr Hutchinson said they couldn't have asked for better weather for the event.
"As always it's been another great day," he said.
"It's a fantastic facility for Warwick to have. The council does a great job looking after it."
Mr Hutchinson said the aerodrome opened up many possibilities for the area.
"We have doctors flying in each week to work at Warwick Hospital," he said.
"The Royal Flying Doctors stop here each week.
"It's an essential part of our community."
