Allora aims to make A grade as Warwick cricket hots up
CRICKET: The battle is on for the final four in A-grade cricket with two rounds to go in the Condamine Cup.
Only Maryvale- Condamine and Warwick Hotel Colts are assured of spots in A grade.
All eight teams are in the one competition in Warwick cricket with the top four playing in the A-grade finals and the next four in reserve grade.
After missing the A-grade finals last year, Colts have made sure of a spot this season and will finish first or second.
Redbacks are in third spot after a crucial win against the previously unbeaten Maryvale and defending premiers Wheatvale are fourth.
After looking no chance to make the top-four for a second season running, Allora has hit form and will play their most important game of the season against Wheatvale on Sunday at Slade Park.
Mitch McLennan is a key all-rounder for Allora after starring in regional teams as a junior.
He scored 24 in the win against Sovereign last weekend and his opening partner, Gavan Scheiwe, scored 36. They scored almost half the required runs which would delight any captain in Australia.
After three wickets last week, Matthew Kiernan will be a key bowler for Allora this Saturday.
Inglewood faces leaders Maryvale-Condamine at Mayhew Oval on Saturday and it shapes as a tough game. A team like Maryvale, which was unbeaten until February, won't want to go down in successive games.
Redbacks are favourites against Railway Hotel Rascals while Colts should beat Sovereign.
Next weekend is the T20 finals.
