Auction excitement
THE 36th annual Allora Community Auction is on again Monday at the showgrounds. Bookings have closed with 2500 lots expected from 180 vendors from between Rockhampton, Inglewood and northern NSW.
Earlier this year, floods inundated Allora, the showgrounds one of many properties damaged, but the community banded together with the Allora Show Society to present the agricultural show in February.
On Monday they will present the annual community auction, reportedly the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
The grounds and fences have been repaired and maintained by volunteers with assistance under the Queensland Government Sport and Recreation Flood Fightback Plan – Infrastructure Program and a grant from the Commonwealth Bank Community Group Flood Assistance Grants Program.
The profits are shared between the show society and the organisations which volunteer services on the weekend. Last year 20 organisations received funds and 200 volunteers helped out during the three days.
Items arrive on Saturday and Sunday, ready for auction on Monday. Twelve auctioneers, the eldest being Jim Leeson, 91, will share their time from 8am.
