Campdraft heralded as a success

CRAIG Shepherd travelled from Peak Crossing to win the open event at the Allora Campdraft at the weekend.

Shepherd won on Reflection from Jason Bischof on Colonel.

Kevin Ryan, of Clintonvale, won the novice on Aussie from Allora District Campdraft Association president Glen Holmes on Zeb.

The maiden campdraft was won by John Moffatt, of Millmerran, from Gary Spencer riding a horse owned by Barry Standing, of Pittsworth.

The campdraft attracted more than 1300 nominations but only 750 horse-and-rider combinations could be catered for.

The club will donate $1000 from the weekend to the Allora Medical Centre, $500 to RACQ CareFlight and $300 to Yangan resident Brendan McIvor who had a tractor accident last month and is in hospital in Brisbane.

Competition started at 6am Saturday and went until 7.30pm Saturday after the fancy dress bareback cut out.

There was another 6am start yesterday with the final presentations at 3pm.

It was described by organisers as one of the most successful campdrafts run by the association.

Even a bit of dust due to the dry weather did not deter the enthusiasm.
